Peterson Trial: More On Tracking Dogs

Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 05:55 AM

There will be more testimony about tracking dogs in the Scott Peterson murder trial today.

Yesterday, a dog handler testified that her dog picked up the scent of Laci Peterson at the Berkeley Marina -- that's where Scott Peterson says he launched his boat for a fishing trip the day Laci disappeared.

A third dog expert is expected to testify today about how tracking dogs use scent.

Prosecutors want to use testimony from the dog handlers to help establish their claims that Scott Peterson dumped his wife's body in San Francisco Bay.

Defense attorneys have asked the judge to throw out the evidence gathered by the use of dogs.

They maintain the dogs are unreliable. The judge will decide if jurors will hear the potentially damaging testimony from the dog handlers.
