Learn The Ancient Art of Bonsai

Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 07:25 PM

Columbia College Community Education is offering a six-week course on bonsai, or the oriental art of growing miniaturized trees in containers. Classes will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to noon on six Saturdays, beginning on Mar. 13 to May 8, but excluding Mar. 20, Apr. 3 and Apr. 17. Instructor George Fujita is one of the most prominent West Coast authorities on bonsai techniques.

Students will learn the five basic bonsai styles, along with how to select appropriate plant material, trimming and wiring plants, making soil mixtures, and repotting and maintaining the live trees.

Students must provide their own materials, and a supply list is available upon request. Course cost is $65 per person, and the registration deadline is Mar. 7. For more information or to register, call 588-5144.
