No Changes For Bus System in Calaveras CountyWednesday, March 24, 2004 - 03:15 AM
The budget crunch county governments are facing is why Calaveras County won't be adding money to the public transit budget.
At this week's meeting of the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, proposed modifications to the bus system were rejected by a 3-to-2 vote. Supervisor Victoria Erickson was seen by many as the deciding vote, since supervisors Tom Tryon and Paul Stein have been opposed to additional funding for Calaveras Transit, and board members Merita Callaway and Lucy Thein have been long-time supporters.
Erickson said, since county governments are having to deal with layoffs and employee furloughs, she couldn't support additional money at this time.
A budget which keeps the transit system the way it is will come before the Calaveras County Supervisors in mid-April.
