Columbia Celebrates 154th BirthdayFriday, March 26, 2004 - 10:30 AM
Columbia celebrates 154 years of history Saturday with a number of events and activities for the public.
The 154th Anniversary of Columbia's founding in 1850 begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and runs through 4 p.m. at the corner of Main and State streets with an anniversary ceremony at 12 noon. Admission is free.
Throughout the day visitors to the park can sit by the campfire with gold miners who have staked a claim at Columbia and learn about mining life in 1850s. Historic buildings will also be open for viewing, such as the Justice Court, the barber shop and the Tibbits and Martinez houses.
A birthday dance caps off the day down the street in Angelo's Hall starting at 8 p.m.
