Errant Sign Displays Unbelievable Gasoline Price in SonoraMonday, March 29, 2004 - 04:50 PM
It's a sign which Motherlode drivers haven't seen in years.
One dollar and four cents for a gallon of regular unleaded? A metal sign in front of the Gold Country Gas Station on south Washington Street in Sonora displayed the unbelievable price Monday afternoon.
Alas, the sign was indeed too good to be true, and was quickly updated to reflect the actual price, two dollars and four cents per gallon.
Store clerks said most customers realized the displayed price was too good to be true.
Weak duct tape was blamed for the mistake.
The owner of the gas station could not be reached for comment.
