Missing Hiker Found Near Cherry Lake

An elderly Modesto man spent the night in the wilderness near Cherry Lake.

Tuolumne County Sheriff Deputy Jim Oliver told us this morning 63 year-old David Fothergill is experienced hiker and had left on a day hike sometime yesterday at the lake east of the Tuolumne.

Oliver says a friend of Fothergill's called authorities around 1 a.m. this morning reporting him overdue. Fothergill's car was parked in the area. He was reported as a missing person at 5 a.m. and the Tuolumne County Search and Rescue team was set for deployment. The friend called back deputies and reported he had found Fothergill.

Oliver says the missing hiker was dehydrated but otherwise in good condition.
