Gas Price Hearings Continue in SacramentoThursday, April 29, 2004 - 05:05 AM
California gas prices don't have to be so high.
That's the word from economists speaking at a joint committee in Sacramento yesterday. Professors from Yale and UC-Berkeley said they'd allow gasoline retailers to buy their fuel from any refinery, which would encourage competition at the wholesale level.
Currently, retailers must buy gas from the particular oil company with whom they have a franchise agreement.
Lawmakers say they hope to include ideas from these gas price hearings when they propose legislation.
