Memorial Day Campfire SafetyThursday, May 27, 2004 - 06:00 AM
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is joining the call for a safe Memorial Day weekend.
If you're going camping, officials say, make sure you practice campfire safety. Tips from the CDF include making sure campfires are allowed in the area you've chosen, clear a ten-foot diameter around your fire, and avoid starting fires under low tree branches.
Of course, never leave a campfire unattended.
Last year, officials say, escaped campfires caused 110 wildfires in California.
