Tahoe Regulators Approve Incline Village Tree Thinning

Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 12:55 PM

Lake Tahoe land use regulators have approved a plan to thin trees around homes in the Incline Village area to reduce fire risks.

The plan by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency allows the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District to remove trees within 30 feet of homes or other structures if they present a fire hazard.

Thinning operations should begin by the second week in June. Officials say the agreement could serve as a model for other fire districts in the Lake Tahoe basin and streamline the process of reducing fire fuels.

Fire districts are also preparing plans due by August on how to protect communities from devastating forest fires.
