Lakeside Jazz & Wine Hosted By College

Monday, May 31, 2004 - 02:05 PM
A group of walkers are reflected in the waters of Columbia College's San Diego Reservoir.

Lakeside Jazz & Wine is coming to the shores of Columbia College's San Diego Reservoir on Sunday, June 27 with all the ingredients for a relaxing, fun-filled summer afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. – light jazz, scrumptious hors d'oeuvres, fine California wines and seating around a peaceful lake in the middle of a forest.

That's what the event organizers, the Columbia College Foundation, promise to deliver. And deliver they can! Columbia College, which has been described by many as one of the most beautiful community college campuses in California, sits on a 280-acre site within groves of conifers and mixed hardwoods. All campus buildings surround a picturesque 4 ½ acre lake, a living remnant of the Mother Lode's colorful past from its earlier gold rush days.

Lakeside Jazz & Wine will feature an assortment of wine tasting from prominent vineyards throughout the state. Food will be prepared by the college's prestigious culinary and pastry arts department, along with other tasty dishes by chefs from some of the area's finest restaurants. And entertainment will be provided by The George Railey Quartet and Rod Harris & the Columbia College Big Band.

The event is a fund raiser with proceeds going to supplement the college's academic and vocational training programs. Funds will also be used for annual student scholarships and purchases of equipment to support the educational efforts of the school. Proceeds from this year's event will directly benefit Columbia College's music program, culinary and pastry arts program, and others. To further support these goals, a silent auction will be conducted with award-winning wines and other valuable merchandise for bidding.

Festivities, food, wine, entertainment, ambiance – and all for a good cause. Tickets are set at $40 per person, which include a souvenir wine glass and event program.

For Lakeside Jazz & Wine tickets or more information, go online to the event website at http://columbia.yosemite.cc.ca.us/foundation/Lakeside_Jazz_and_Wine.htm.

You can also call the college's Foundation Office at 588-5360 or the President's Office at 588-5115. Admission is limited, so early purchases are highly recommended.
