Sick Hikers Rescued At Yosemite

Wednesday, June 23, 2004 - 11:55 AM

Rescue operations in Yosemite National Park this morning.

Park spokesperson Deb Schweizer says a helicopter was called in to rescue two backpackers in the remote Buck Camp area in the south-eastern portion of the park.

The pair was reported to be at 8-thousand feet elevation and suffering pain and disorientation thought to be altitude sickness by medical personnel. Schweizer says the backpackers were about ten miles away from the nearest road. The unidentified hikers were flown into Crane Flat then taken by ambulance to medical facility in the Yosemite Valley.
