State Budget Negotiations Continue

Governor Schwarzenegger has asked budget negotiators to work through the weekend, saying progress is being made.

Lawmakers have missed the state's June 15th constitutional deadline for adopting a budget.

But both Democrats and Republicans say they do not want to begin the fiscal year again without a new state spending plan.

Legislative leaders say there are only a handful of issues separating them -- more money for state universities -- a wage guarantee for home health care workers and a cost of living increase for welfare recipients and pension reforms.
