Rescue Underway For Fall Victim

Monday, July 26, 2004 - 12:25 PM

Breaking news at this hour....

Tuolumne County Search and Rescue team members, U.S. Forest Service rangers, firefighters and emergency personnel are attempting to reach a fall victim in the Stanislaus River canyon near upper end of Beardsley Lake in eastern Tuolumne County.

Rescue officials now at the scene are saying the victim is about a 1/2 mile down into the near vertical canyon. Dispatchers were earlier calling for a rope rescue for the victim who is near forest service road 5N09. Now they are requesting a helicopter to try and reach the fall victim for a "short haul" rescue.

The accident was first reported around 11:25 this morning. The victim is said to have suffered a broken arm but apparently has no life threatening injuries.
