Investigator: Peterson Wiretaps Weren't CompleteThursday, August 26, 2004 - 04:15 PM
An investigator who recorded phone calls Scott Peterson's phone calls after his pregnant wife vanished, acknowledged today the wiretaps did not capture all
Peterson's calls. Peterson's defense attorneys are seeking to discredit calls suggesting Peterson lied to his mother about following up on a tip that his wife might have been spotted in Washington state.
On January 30th of 2003, Peterson talked to a reporter about a possible sighting of his missing wife Laci in Longview, Washington.
The following day, he told his mother he discussed the tip with authorities in Longview when, in reality, he hadn't talked to anyone there.
That came from yesterday's testimony from Stanislaus County investigator Steven Jacobson.
But under cross-examination today, Jacobson acknowledged that Peterson actually had called the Longview police on January 30th.
It's just that authorities didn't properly record the call.
