Jamestown Fire Came Close To Homes

Saturday, August 28, 2004 - 08:10 AM

A brush fire Friday evening in Jamestown came very close to homes in that area.

The fire was burning in the area of 7th Avenue and Golden Oaks Drive. The fire was first reported at 5:45 p.m.

Tuolumne County Fire Marshal Kary Hubbard praised firefighter's efforts in stopping the flames. "It did burn really close to a couple homes up on Golden Oaks Drive, but firefighters did a really good job saving those structures," Hubbard said.

Helicopters and airtankers helped battle the blaze. The fire was contained by 9 last night. Hubbard said the fire burnt about 5 acres.

Firefighters worked throughout the night and will be back out today. No cause has been determined yet on this fire. Hubbard said as of last night, it is still under investigation.
