Tuolumne County: No West Nile In Humans So Far

So far health officials in the Mother Lode say no confirmed human cases of the West Nile virus have been detected in Tuolumne County.

Many people have been tested for symptoms of West Nile, but it is not necessary the virus.

Dr. Todd Stolp with the Tuolumne County Health Department say as of this time, no cases have be confirmed.

He say that there are many types of infections that mimic the West Nile virus. But so far none have tested positive for the West Nile in Tuolumne County.

Experts with the California Department of Food and Agriculture say that West Nile virus is spreading among horses. Veterinarians have reported five new cases a day for the past two weeks. They say that of the 158 California horses infected with West Nile virus, more than half -- 82 -- have died.
