Ready To Count Measure I Ballots

Tuesday, August 31, 2004 - 10:00 AM
Elections Clerk Tim Johnston sorted ballots for the Measure I mail-in election just before they were mailed out. He and his staff are ready to count the returns tonight.

Tuolumne County Elections official Tim Johnson says they are ready to count the ballots returned from the City of Sonora Measure I special election as soon as the clock strikes 8.

The mail-in ballots for the city of Sonora 1/2 cent sales tax increase will not be tabulated until after tonight's 8 o'clock deadline. The ballots were mailed the first part of August.

That's when the cut off is. Residents of Sonora who have not voted still have time to drop their ballot off at the county elections office on North Washington Street.

Johnson says as of 9 a.m. Tuesday morning they have had about a 40 percent return so far.
