Senator Dianne Feinstein has joined Representative George Radonovich in submitting the Yosemite Schools Bill.
The proposed legislation passed through both the House and Senate yesterday, but was not signed into law. The Bill authorizes the Department of Interior to provide supplemental funding for children attending schools within Yosemite National Park. Feinstein says the funding would help prevent the need to bus some students to Mariposa each day for classes. Operating funds for schools in California are based on average daily attendance. With fewer students attending school in Yosemite Valley, funding has decreased. Three schools serve Yosemite National Park: Yosemite Valley, El Portal Elementary and Wawona Elementary.
