Sonora and Tuolumne County may soon be one step closer to having new bike trails.
County Transportation Planner David Van Dyken will appear before the City Council on Monday to request a vote of support for applying for a state grant to fund a trail feasibility study. If approved, the Cal Trans grant would be for $94,500 and would require a 10-percent match from Tuolumne County. One possible route for the proposed trail would span from downtown Sonora to Columbia. The trail could link area schools, including Sonora High School and Columbia College. The grant application must be submitted to CalTrans by February 1st. The Board of Supervisors voted in favor of submitting the application earlier this week.
