Sierra Snow Pack Good News For Water SupplyTuesday, March 29, 2005 - 01:30 PM
Late season snowstorms are adding a cushion to the Sierra snowpack that experts say is good news for this year's water supplies.
More than a foot of snow fell Sunday night into Monday. Another weather system is bringing more snow to the Sierra Nevada today. Water experts say the snowpack remains significantly above average for this time of year. As of yesterday, the snowpack in the Truckee River Basin measured 125 percent of normal for the date, with the Lake Tahoe Basin snowpack at 137 percent. The Carson River Basins snowpack was 141 percent. On the same date last year, the snowpack was 85 percent of normal in the Truckee and Carson basins, and only 81 percent in the Tahoe basin.
