McPhereson Confirmed, Takes Office Immediately

The state Assembly has voted unanimously to confirm former state senator Bruce McPherson as California's 29th secretary of state.

The vote came within hours of a seven to one vote in the Assembly Rules Committee to recommend him for the office. The Senate has already approved McPherson, a Santa Cruz Republican nominated by Governor Schwarzenegger to replace former Secretary of State Kevin Shelley. McPherson will immediately take the office left by his predecessor under the cloud of several investigations.
