Columbia, CA -- Columbia Elementary School has opened its new classroom building.
The $1.6 million project was unveiled Monday as two 6th grade classes moved out of portable facilities and into the building's two new classrooms. The structure also houses two rest rooms and a work area for teachers. The project was completed in spite of several problems which caused delays in construction.
School district officials say they now plan to build three more buildings holding a total of 19 classrooms which will completely replace the portables currently being used by students.
The projects will be financed by state construction funds. Officials say bids for the new buildings could be out by the end of July.
