Commission Approves Funding Study Of Suicide BarrierWednesday, April 27, 2005 - 05:35 PM
San Francisco, CA -- A regional transportation group today approved a $1.6 million study of a potential suicide barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge.
Since the bridge was built in 1937, an estimated 13,000 people have jumped from what many consider the world's leading site for suicides. An average of 20 people jump off the bridge each year. Building the barrier is estimated to cost between $15 million and $25 million.
