Abused Geese Safe In Jamestown

Saturday, April 30, 2005 - 07:35 AM

Jamestown, CA -- A flock of geese has ended up in Jamestown, but they didn't fly there.

The wild Canadian geese were released into the custody of B&J Duck Haven after being rescued from an elderly care facility in Placer County.

The state Department of Fish and Game along with rescue volunteers suspect the Loomis adult care home of illegally trapping the birds, cutting off their wings, and possibly serving them to residents.

Because the birds were so badly injured releasing them back into the wild is not an option, one even had to be put to sleep, and the others will never fly again.

When they arrived at Duck Haven they were met with about 500 other birds, living on almost three acres that are fenced and terraced, the property also includes several ponds for the bird's use.
