Modesto, CA -- A 34-year-old Modesto woman is facing charges in the death of her 13-year-old quadriplegic daughter over the weekend.
Police say the wheelchair-bound girl died when her portable ventilator was disconnected Saturday. Investigators arrested 34-year-old Donna Baker and booked her into the Stanislaus County Safety Center on charges of homicide, abuse of a child and willful harm or injury resulting in the death of a child.
Modesto Police detectives say Baker did not have custody of her daughter, and the alleged incident possibly happened during a weekend visit.
Police say they received a call at about 4:15 Saturday afternoon from employees of a county-run healthcare facility that the girl had been left there and wasn't breathing. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
