Jamestown, CA -- The California Highway Patrol is warning motorists that the upcoming holiday weekend will be a maximum enforcement period, specifically targeting drunk drivers.
CHP says every available officer will be on the road and on the lookout. Officials say DUI rates have been on the rise in California and nationwide over the past few years. Patrol officers made more than 88,000 DUI arrests in California during 2004.
CHP urges those planning to drink during the holiday to plan ahead by using a designated driver and buckle up.
