Poll: By 2-To-1 Margin Californians Say State Is On Wrong Track

Tuesday, June 28, 2005 - 11:10 AM

Sacramento, CA -- A new poll says that more than twice as many Californians believe the state is on the wrong track.

The Field Poll being released today has found that 59 percent of Californians believe the state is "seriously off on the wrong track." That's up from 51 percent in February.

Meanwhile, 28 percent surveyed say the state is "generally going in the right direction." The percentage fell from 40 percent in February.

Republicans are most optimistic with 46 percent believing the state is on the right track, while just 18 percent of Democrats agree.

Pessimists blame Governor Schwarzenegger, the legislature and other elected officials for the state's problems.

Optimists credit a growing economy, more jobs and better business climate for their upbeat assessment.
