Authorities Scale Back Search For Missing Hiker

Tuesday, July 26, 2005 - 11:05 AM

Yosemite National Park, CA -- Searchers in Yosemite National Park are planning to scale back their efforts to locate a missing South Korean foreign exchange student.

Spokesman Scott Gediman says that if 25-year-old Hyundo Ahn isn't located today, search crews will be dismissed. He says a thorough search of the park's trail system over the last few days has turned up nothing.

Gediman says that after today the active search will be discontinued, but rangers will continue to regularly patrol the park and flyers will be posted at various locations.

Ahn was last seen June 22nd on the John Muir trail by some other hikers.

Authorities say a bus ticket Ahn had purchased to visit friends in Los Angeles and a plane ticket to his home in South Korea have remained unused.
