Manton, CA -- Firefighters are still battling a fast-moving fire that has burned 23-hundred acres, injured two people, destroyed 20 structures and forced the evacuation of the small Northern California town of Manton.
CDF spokeswoman Michelle Black says the cause of the blaze is unknown but arson has been ruled out. Two evacuation centers have been open, at Tehama Fairgrounds in Red Bluff and at Black Butte Elementary School in Shingletown. A firefighter and an inmate helping to control the blaze have sustained minor injuries. The fire started at about 3 pm Friday and was headed toward Viola, about 45 miles northeast of Red Bluff.
