County Disposal Fees May Be Refunded

Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 10:00 AM

Sonora, CA -- Tuolumne County residents who paid disposal fees to get rid of old Television sets and computer monitors after buying new ones may be eligible for a rebate.

The Tuolumne County Solid Waste Division says legislation that went into effect added those charges to the purchase prices of new TVs, monitors and laptop computers, thus eliminating disposal fees at county facilities after April 1st.

That means those who purchased such items between January and April may have paid twice and are eligible for a refund from the county.

Officials say anyone who shows a receipt for the new item showing payment of the recycling fee and a receipt from the disposal facility will be reimbursed from the disposal facility.

Consumers who mail those receipts to the county solid waste department will receive a check in four to six weeks.
