Jamestown, CA -- CHP says officers will be on increased patrol this holiday weekend.
Officer Brad Schultz with CHP says 80% of available officers will be out on the roads focusing on impaired drivers, speeders and those not wearing seatbelts. He says truck inspection teams will be around the major highways enforcing safe driving around trucks.
CHP says 53 people died on the state highways last year including one in Tuolumne County.
The maximum enforcement this weekend is part of the CHP Statewide Traffic Action Response program, or STAR, which is a combined effort of the Highway Patrol, Caltrans, Department of Motor Vehicles, and other state and local authorities.
