CDF Crews Put Out Weekend Fires

Monday, September 26, 2005 - 09:00 AM

CDF crews put down a small grass fire in Jamestown late Saturday morning.

CDF Dispatch says the fire was located in an area of grass and trees behind the Preston Apartments.

Although tenants in the apartment complex activated fire alarms, evacuation was not necessary.

Fire crews were able to keep the blaze away from the apartment complex and there was no damage to any structures.

Damage to the wildland was estimated to be about $200 and no injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, firefighters also responded to a structure fire in Tuolumne Saturday afternoon. The blaze on Laurel Lane started in an unoccupied trailer being used for storage.

Karry Hubbard of CDF says the trailer was a total loss as well as about $60,000 worth of personal items including tools and furniture inside. The trailer itself is said to have been worth about $25,000.

CDF crews were able to contain the fire to the structure and keep it from spreading to the nearby wildland.

No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
