Fire Restrictions Lifted In High Hazard Areas

Sonora, CA -- The Forest Service has announced that, due to storms and rainfall resulting in a recent reduction of fire risk within the Stanislaus National Forest, fire restrictions in effect since August 15 are now lifted in the High Hazard Areas of the Forest, generally located below 6,500 feet in elevation.

The temporary fire restrictions are terminated by Forest Order. Campfires, briquette barbecues, and smoking outside developed campgrounds are now permitted in the low elevation High Hazard Areas of the Forest.

Campfires outside developed campgrounds and recreation sites are permitted with a valid California Campfire Permit. Visitors and campers are required to follow the terms stated on their Campfire Permits.

Visitors who smoke outside a vehicle are required to do so within a cleared area of at least 3 feet in diameter. Never extinguish burning tobacco on or near dry vegetation, an old stump, or decayed log.
