Schwarzenegger Vetoes Gay Marriage BillThursday, September 29, 2005 - 03:50 PM
Sacramento, CA -- As he said he would, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed a bill to legalize gay marriage in his state.
Schwarzenegger says the issue should be decided by voters or the courts. In his veto message, the Republican governor said the measure would have simply added "confusion to a constitutional issue." Schwarzenegger went on to say, "If the ban of same-sex marriage is unconstitutional this bill is not necessary. If the ban is constitutional this bill is ineffective."
