Sacramento, CA -- Transportation authorities are reminding motorists to turn on their headlights while driving in bad weather.
A law in effect since July requires drivers to use their headlights in the daytime hours when conditions prompt the constant use of windshield wipers, or when weather prevents a motorist from discerning a person or another vehicle from 1,000 feet away. CHP says the law applies to a vehicle's main headlights rather than daytime running lights or parking lights.
Those not using headlights in bad weather can face a fine of $96.
