Caltrans Finishes Silver Rapids

Valley Springs, CA -- Silver Rapids Road in Valley Springs is reopened.

The project began in 2004 as part of a larger realignment of Highway 26. Portions of a hillside along 26 at Silver Rapids were shaved back to improve sight distance.

But just months after reopening in the spring, a fatal car accident shut down the intersection once again.

Caltrans determined additional site distance was needed and more of the slope was removed.

Officials said Caltrans' job is to enhance highway safety but added that drivers should drop their speed and be aware of other vehicles.
