Saturday, December 31, 2005 - 09:30 PM
David Petelo was discovered missing from the Vallecito Conservation Camp at about 8:00 last night during a routine head count. He was spotted in the Utica Park area of Angels Camp at about 6:30 this morning. He is of Pacific Islander heritage with short black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He's 5' 11" tall and weighs about 215 pounds. He was last seen wearing grey sweats and camp boots.

Angels Camp, CA -- An inmate who walked away from the Vallecito Conservation Camp more than a week ago is back in custody.

Chief Tony Tacheria of the Angels Police Department says 20-year-old David Petelo was taken into custody without incident shortly after 4:30 Saturday afternoon.

Tacheria says there had been a few sightings of Petelo around the Utica Park area after he was discovered missing from the camp shortly after 8:00 on the evening of December 22nd. The first of which was at about 6:30 on the morning of the 23rd.

Tacheria says Petelo had apparently been returning to the park periodically.

Petelo is serving a five-year term for a car-jacking conviction. He reportedly faces additional state charges of escape from a correctional institution.
