Sacramneto, CA -- This is food checkout week, the time when the average person has earned enough so far this year to pay for the family food supply for the entire year according to government statistics.
Most people work until mid-April to pay their taxes, but only five weeks to pay for food. The California Farm Bureau promotes the week to make customers aware that they pay only nine and a half percent of disposable income for food, less than citizens of any other country.
The Farm Bureau says Americans enjoy the safest most abundant and most affordable food supply in the world.
