Clean-up Program Seeks Financial Help

Monday, February 27, 2006 - 07:30 AM

Sonora, CA -- Due to the lack of donations, a two- year clean-up program started by the Chamber of Commerce for Historic Downtown Sonora may come to an end.

The Chamber started the program to keep the sidewalks of downtown Sonora clean. The WATCH program, which serves 180 developmentally disabled adults in the Mother Lode spends two days a week to clean up the sidewalks on Washington street.

Different businesses have helped pay for the cost of the service but officials say they are looking for other merchants and anyone else wishing to help keep downtown Sonora clean.

If there aren't enough donations by March 1st organizers say the program will end. Donations can be sent to the Historic Downtown chamber of commerce.
