Sacramento, CA -- Signaling continued growth in grape production, the amount of young or “non-bearing” vineyard land in California rose 15 percent last year.
A government report issued Thursday shows that most of the new vineyards will produce wine grape varieties. Total acreage of raisin grapes decreased slightly, while acreage of table grapes and wine grapes increased.
Grapes represent California's number-two crop, behind milk, and vineyards fill more than 869,000 acres of land.
