Study Says Ca Risks Losing Businesses Due To Fewer College Degrees

Friday, April 28, 2006 - 05:05 PM

Sacramento, CA -- A new study says California is running the risk of losing business in the coming years if more student's don't earn degrees.

According to the study released Wednesday by nonprofit advocacy groups California Business Roundtable and the Campaign for College Opportunity, the demand for workers with a college degree will increase by 48 percent by 2022.

Demand for students without a degree will grow by only 33 percent. The study says the industries that will need the most highly educated workers, and could face significant shortages, will be education, health care and professional, scientific and technical services.

The study complements a similar one last year by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education that found the state's population of college graduates is declining.
