Westly-Angelides; Still A Dead Heat

Monday, May 29, 2006 - 10:00 AM

Los Angeles, CA -- With a little more than a week until the state's primary election, a new poll shows Phil Angelides and Steve Westly statistically tied in their bids to be the Democrat to try and unseat Governor Schwarzenegger this fall.

A Los Angeles Times poll published Sunday shows 37% of likely Democratic voters favor State Treasurer Angelides with 34% inclined to vote for State Controller Westly. That makes the race a tossup given the poll's margin of sampling error of plus or minus 5%.

The Times' findings mirror those of a Public Policy Institute of California poll released last week that had Angelides with 35% of the vote compared to Westly's 32%.

An unusually high percentage of primary voters, 29%, were undecided about which Democrat they would vote for on June 6th.
