Tuolumne River Canoe Victim Still Missing

Wednesday, June 28, 2006 - 07:15 AM
The Tuolumne County Search and Rescue Team out looking for 12 year old Veronica McEvoy.

Sonora, CA -- 12 year old Veronica McEvoy is still missing.

The Bay Area youngster apparently lost her grasp on that 16 foot canoe that overturned near the Early Intake Powerstation on the Tuolumne River Monday afternoon.

The canoe was recovered Tuesday about a half mile downstream under several feet of water wrapped around some rocks but there was no sign of the girl. Search and Rescue command personnel have now determined that the chances of finding the victim alive are remote.

Deputy Dan Crow, the commander of the Search and Rescue Unit in the Sheriff's Department, stated that recovery efforts would continue when the water level of the river drops to a level where a search is feasible.
