Angels Camp, CA -- The Calaveras Community Foundation is announcing the awarding of $5,500 in grants for local youth programs.
Every year the foundation helps non-profits to improve the quality of life in Calaveras County. Here are the 9 grant recipients and what they will use the money for:
The Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth in West Point will convene a meeting of local leaders, and community members to develop a plan for improving communication and reducing violence among the youth and families of the West Point area.
The Calaveras County Arts Council will bring performing arts to local schools.
The Calaveras County Office of Education Special Friends group will provide kindergarten through third grade counseling for at-risk students in the Mokelumne Hill and Railroad Flat areas.
The Public Health Department will use its money to provide fluoride varnish applications for infants and children five years of age or younger from low-income families.
The Calaveras Youth Mentoring will pay to connect young people with adult role models.
The Copperopolis Parks and Recreation group got money for its Kid's Day Camp.
Murphys Preschool will use it money to purchase equipment for a photography and language arts project.
Vallecito Union School District's Hwy “4” Success will provide a network of resources for family support and enrichment.
The Valley Springs Youth Center will support after school mentoring for youth.
The foundation board approved the grants at its June meeting.
Foundation President Susan Crosson says she's pleased the grants were spread so well throughout the county.
