Avery, CA -- 14-year-old Jason Knight of Avery is in critical condition after hitting a car while riding his bike Wednesday evening.
The CHP says Knight was bike riding near Avery Middle School when he ran a stop sign and ran into a Honda CRV driven by 17- year-old James Wells of Arnold. Wells turned to try to avoid the collision but Knight's bike struck the right front side of the car. Knight, whose head hit the windshield, was wearing a helmet but it flew off during the impact.
He was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
An evaluation of Wells found that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision.
