Red Ribbon Week Comes To A Close

Thursday, October 26, 2006 - 07:45 PM
Many children march in the parade against drugs

Sonora, CA--The Sonora Opera Hall was the site of Thursday night's finale to the Red Ribbon Week activities put on by the organization Friday Night Live.

A Parade through the downtown area began at 5:30pm. Organizer Shana Monaco says approximately 180 kids were on hand. That's up from 150 last year. Students from pre-school through the 12th grade came out.

Organizers say they had a great turnout this year

The night also included a number of skits by the students, and a performance by Magician Farrell Dillon of Salinas, California. Dillon brought a message about the importance of being drug free when going after your goals.

The purpose of Red Ribbon Week is to raise awareness about the importance of preventing drug, alcohol and child abuse. Organizers say this was the 18th year the group has been putting on events in recognition.
