Yosemite Man Dies In Vehicle Accident That Causes Fire

Saturday, October 28, 2006 - 11:30 AM

Mariposa, CA-- A 24-year-old Yosemite man was pronounced dead early this morning after allowing his vehicle to drive off the road.

The unknown male was headed eastbound on Highway 140 east of Cedar Lodge in Mariposa at about 2:46am when he allowed his 1988 Subaru wagon to drift to the right where it ran off the south edge of Highway 140.

Reports indicate that there is evidence the Yosemite man was under the influence of alcohol. CHP Officials say the vehicle continued off the south side of the highway for about 80 feet before colliding with a large immovable rock outcropping.

Following the collision, a fire ignited in the engine compartment of the vehicle which also started a small vegetation fire. Although the unidentified male was extricated from the vehicle by passing citizens and C.P.R was performed, the efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
