Arnold, CA -- This weekend's event to raise money for Jason Knight, who was injured in a car accident last month, is being called a success.
Organizers say their fundraising goal was exceeded Saturday during an event in the parking lot of Big Trees Market. The community was invited for tri-tip, entertainment and raffle prizes, while a 5k run and 1.5-mile walk were held.
Exact numbers haven't been tallied but more than 500 tri tip dinners were served and 3,000 raffle tickets sold.
The 14-year-old was riding his bike near Avery Middle School when he collided with a car. He was flown to UC Davis Medical Center where he remained in a coma for seven days. Knight is now recovering and has several weeks of rehabilitation left.
A fund has been set up in Knight's name at El Dorado Savings Bank.
Another fundraiser sponsored by the Murphys Hotel, where Knight's mom works, will be held this Saturday November 4. From 2 to 5 p.m. guests are invited to the hotel for an all you can eat spaghetti dinner. Proceeds will benefit Knight's rehabilitation.
