North Beardsley Underburn Set For Today

Entering the Stanislaus National Forest

Sonora, CA -- The U.S. Forest Service-Stanislaus National Forest is scheduled to commence the North Beardsley Underburn in the Summit Ranger District today.

The underburn will be located approximately five miles northwest of Strawberry along Forest Road 5N02. Smoke may be visible from Hwy 108 with some down canyon drift smoke visible in the early morning and evening hours. The prescribed burn is expected to continue over the next 10 days.

A total of 1,799 acres are to be treated with low-intensity fire with planned ignition on approximately 300 acres daily.

Burning is contingent on weather, fuel moisture and air quality. All burning is monitored and conducted in accordance with state and county air quality guidelines and closely coordinated with local county air quality control districts.
