More Snow Is On The Way For The Mother Lode

Tuesday, February 27, 2007 - 05:00 AM

Sacramento, CA -- The National Weather Service reports more snow is on the way for the Mother Lode.

A strong cold Pacific storm system will move into central California this evening and will persist through Wednesday. This storm is expected to bring heavy snow and strong winds to the southern Sierra. Sufficient cold air is associated with this storm to bring the threat of significant snow into the foothills above 2,500 feet. The snow will increase in coverage and intensity overnight tonight and will be heavy at times through Wednesday.

In the foothills the snow level will fall from around 4,000 feet at the onset of precipitation to as low as 2,000 feet by early Wednesday morning. Total snow accumulation through Wednesday could reach 12 inches above 3,000 feet.

At and above 5,000 feet that accumulation is expected to be two to three feet.
